Xytech Notable Features

Xytech includes many standard features that will make using the system easier and more time effective. Following is a list of several notable features with links to topics for more details about each:

Open alternate layouts from the Modules pane or any window

If more than one layout of a particular window has been created, the system will initially open a CHOOSE LAYOUT WINDOW with the 'Always Use the Selected Layout' field checked. If you do not uncheck the field, the system will automatically use the chosen layout the next time you open that window. You can open the Choose Layout Window again from any window using the Layout Select command from the Tools Icon.

Create custom buttons from Actions Button commands and menu items

Each user has the ability to change any menu command on any window into a button through the 'Customize Button' feature found through the Tools Icon . With this feature, individual users may save their commonly used menu items, such as Actions Button menu commands, as buttons for quick access.

Save changes made to window size and custom buttons

When a user makes a personal change to window size, adds custom buttons, or rearranges the positions of buttons, those personalizations to the layout can be saved for the user by using the LAYOUT SAVE command from the Layout Settings Button menu . (You can undo window changes and custom buttons by using the LAYOUT RESTORE command available from the Layout Settings Button. Custom buttons can also be removed / moved via the BUTTON CUSTOMIZATION process.)

Filter search results and other lists

The Filter Row and Filter Builder Window allow you to reduce the number of items in any list – regardless of whether the list is a search list or a list area on a maintenance window – based on entered text or set conditions.

Group search results and other lists by multiple columns

The Group Box Area allows you to drag one or more columns from a list block (e.g., search list, list area) into it, which will sort the list by those columns.

Autofill date range for Search and Reports

When entering date ranges for either a Search or a Report using either the Calendar icon or the 'T' shortcut, the selected value will automatically fill both of the values of the Date range. …  ...

Schedule reports to run automatically

In the Preview Window of most reports, you can use the Create Schedule Button to set up a schedule for a given report to run automatically based on specified criteria and defined dates and times.

Set windows to open up automatically when Xytech launches

The Startup item under the Options menu gives you the ability to add and remove windows from the list of programs that open when Xytech launches.

Saved searches default criteria into search list and report windows

The Saved Searches field on search list and report criteria windows allows you create default sets of criteria that automatically populate the window.

Set windows to be “favorites,” allowing for quick access without using the Navigation Pane

The Favorites menu item gives you access to a list of the applications or individual records that you use the most and the ability to add or delete favorites as needed.

Navigation shortcuts on maintenance application windows

When a maintenance application window is opened via a search list, a set of navigation buttons allows a user to navigate to (open) the next, previous, first, or last record in the list without leaving the window.

Customize totals rows in search results and other lists

By right-clicking the header cell of a particular column and then clicking on 'Totals' in the popup window, the column can be set to show a total in a variety of ways (e.g., sum, count, average) or to hide a total.

Hyperlinks on maintenance application windows open setup windows and records

Certain field prompts in field blocks appear as blue, underlined hyperlinks. When clicked, any such hyperlinked field name will launch the associated setup menu item or application maintenance window, as appropriate (if you have security rights to access a particular setup window).

Double clicking fields in search results and other lists open setup windows

Fields in list blocks (e.g., search list, list area) that are linked to setup windows can be double clicked to open their corresponding setup window (if you have security rights to access a particular setup window).

Type-as-you-go filtering in drop-down lists

To make values easier to select in drop-down lists, you can enter the first letter or first few letters (or numbers) of a value to filter the list accordingly.

Use Rapid Update to change a variety of field values for one or more records via search results

Select one or more records in a search results window and then use the Rapid Update Actions Button menu command to change values in the fields of the selected records.

Recent Documents allows quick access to records you opened recently

The Recent Documents control tab on the left side of Xytech list of all of the recent documents (applications, setup items) that you have viewed. Clicking on one of these documents opens it up.

Personalize display of search results and other lists and which layouts to use

The Layout Settings Button menu  of all Xytech windows allows you to save any customized column order settings, sorting conditions, or column width changes that you have assigned to search list windows or other list blocks. Additionally, you can clear those settings and change the layout of any window if an alternate layout is available.

Use the right mouse button on columns in search results and other lists for useful tools

The column row right mouse button menu available from search list windows or other list blocks gives you access to a variety of useful commands, such as, Wrap Long Text, Best Fit, and Fixed Left and Right.

Use Auto Fill feature to copy values from one field to others in a list block column

Fields in certain list block columns can be automatically updated using the Auto Fill feature. You can automatically copy the values from one field in a column to others above it or below it. When you move your cursor over the lower right corner of one of these fields, it will change into an Auto Fill icon .

Apply different “skins” with Xytech Themes

The Theme item under the Setup menu controls the colors and styles of all of the windows in Xytech.
