Xytech Performance Optimization

The speed Xytech processes actions users make can be impacted by a variety of factors. To maximize system performance, try using the following suggestions:

WHEN USING REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION

  • On the Display Tab Page (accessed via the Options Button):
  • Set to 15/16 bit or 256 colors, whichever is available (i.e., the lowest setting).
  • On the Experience Tab Page (accessed via the Options Button):
  • Set the Performance Field’s dropdown to Satellite (2 Mbps – 16 Mbps with high latency) or Low-Speed Broadband (256 Kbps – 2 Mbps), whichever is applicable. (The WAN (10 Mbps or higher with high latency) option could be a good choice if you are accessing Xytech locally as opposed to across a significant distance, e.g., across a continent or across an ocean.)
  • Uncheck either the Visual Styles Field or the Themes Field, whichever is available.
  • Set the appearance (Options > Appearance > Themes) in Xytech to Windows.

NOTE

Using any of the appearances other than Windows negates the setting made to the Display Tab Page of Remote Desktop Connection.

GENERAL PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT METHODS

  • Set the appearance (Options > Appearance > Themes) in Xytech to Windows.
  • Limit the number of fields in field blocks on layouts. Try using more radio buttons or tab pages.
  • Don’t use note blocks on layouts. Drag note fields directly onto field or list blocks so that they appear as note icons or a drop-down notes. (When using note blocks, the system must load the entire Note Application each time users open a record, which is similar to opening a word processing application in addition to the record.)
  • The SHOW ATTACHMENT COUNT feature is a calculated value and could cause a delay in retrieval of data while counts are calculated for documents that have the Show Attachment Count Field checked on the DOCUMENT TABLES TAB PAGE of the Document Customization Application.
  • For those applications that allow you to add an image to a record (e.g., scheduling resource, contact, notes blocks), it is recommended that you only place images that are less than 100 KB in size in the Image Field or notes block. Images are saved directly in the database and larger images added to records will result in slower loading times and longer search retrieval times. Try linking larger images as attachments to records to maintain optimal performance.
